Taj Mahal is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture and is considered one of the greatest monuments of love in the world. It is an ivory-white marble mausoleum located in Agra, India, and is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. It was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died during childbirth in 1631 AD.
The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632 and took more than 20 years to complete. The mausoleum is surrounded by beautiful gardens, a mosque and a guest house.
The Taj Mahal is famous for its stunning architectural design, intricate carvings, and exquisite decorations. It has a main dome which is 35 meters high and four smaller domes. The exterior is adorned with beautiful calligraphy and precious stones embedded into the marble. Inside the mausoleum, there are two sarcophagi made of white marble, where the remains of Emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal rest.
The Taj Mahal is open for night visits for five days in a month i.e. two days just before and after full moon, and on full moon night. Make sure to reserve in advance because there is a strict limit on capacity. During this special night time visit, you can literally see the moonlight glimmer through the translucent marble creating an incredible sight. We highly recommend experiencing both daytime and nighttime visits to truly appreciate the magnificence of this wonder.
