The most anticipated football tournament in the world is around the corner, and all eyes are on Qatar, the host nation. A country that has an ardent love for football promises to host a tournament like never before.
If you have a football maniac in you, there are some unique facts you need to know. Let’s also see what Qatar has to offer for the visitors.
Qatar is now the smallest country to host a FIFA World Cup after Switzerland hosted it in 1954.
As a small country, traveling around Qatar isn’t a big deal. Moreover, the stadiums set for the 2022 FIFA World Cup are well connected through a metro network. Hence, for the fans to travel from one venue to the other venue, it wouldn’t be much of a hassle.
Qatar will become the first Middle Eastern country to host a major tournament like the FIFA World cup. Qatar has also spent recent years constructing some of the most eco-friendly and advanced sporting facilities ever seen.
This time it’s against the trend. Usually, events like the World Cup and other sports tournaments take place during June and July in the Southern Hemisphere. However, the FIFA World Cup 2022 is set to be hosted by Qatar during November and December, making it the first of its kind.
The geographical location of Qatar right at the center of the Earth makes it an easily commutable destination, for people traveling from anywhere around the world, be it Asia, Africa, or Europe. The expected number of visitors is expected to cross 1.5 million, which if turn out to be true, would be an all-time record.
Qatar is spending a mammoth total of $ 220 billion USD on infrastructural projects, constructing 8 different stadiums. The Qatar stadiums shall be equipped with all modern facilities and will be fully air-conditioned.
Not just the nail-biting matches, it has so much more to discover
The Arabian hospitality of Qatar is world-renowned, so are the hotels and other establishments for staying in the country. The locals often invite the visitors to their homes and serve them food. Serving them Arabic coffee and sweets remains an expression of their hospitality.
You rarely see a place that smells as good as Doha. Pay a visit to Souq Waqif, where the streets are intertwined with the scents of Attars, kebabs, and cardamom tea. Roam through the narrow streets and experience one of the most famous marketplaces in Qatar.
Watch one of the most spectacular sunsets in the world and enjoy desert safari trips, ride camels, and camp under the stars, which features sand dunes in stunning formations. There is also Al Jassasiya, a magnificent area of rock carvings, where visitors can see examples of pre-historic sculptures. You can also book a sand dunes tour from Doha. Drive up and down the dunes in kitted-out 4 by 4s, and try sandboarding.
Keeping up with the pace inside stadiums, the visitors can also enjoy an array of water sports activities in Qatar like fishing trips, rowing boats, water skiing, kitesurfing, paragliding, and scuba diving among shipwrecks or coral reefs. Qatar also has a number of unique islands like Palm Island, the artificial Pearl Island, and the Zekreet peninsula, which boasts picturesque beaches and natural rock formations.
The archaeology and antiquity lovers can see many historical sites telling the story of Qatar’s distant past, such as the UNESCO world heritage site Al Zubarah and its unique fort. There is also the Museum of Islamic Art, Katara Cultural Village, and Souq Waqif, all among Qatar’s most popular tourist attractions.
If you are someone who loves traveling and football, then booking your flights to Qatar for the World Cup is a no-brainer. You’re guaranteed to have a blast.
