As you go through Annecy's Vieille Ville, you'll notice signs leading up to narrow cobblestone lanes to the Château d'Annecy. It's a short uphill hike that can also be driven. Today, the Château is a museum with a permanent collection of religious paintings, finely carved furniture, and other works of art. Furthermore, it frequently holds temporary displays of both old and new work.

Just strolling through the building is entertaining. You'll pass through big reception halls with massive fireplaces and climb antique spiral stairs. The vista is visible through ancient glass windows. The Château is often used for social gatherings and receptions. The Counts of Geneva began construction on the Château in the 13th century. When the territory became part of Savoy in the 16th century, it was the residence of the Dukes of Genevois-Nemours.

Barracks were built in the 17th century and were used until the mid-twentieth century. The Château fell into disrepair until being purchased by the town in the mid-twentieth century and restored and renovated for its new use. There is a tiny patio where you may enjoy views of Annecy's rooftops.

Facts about Musee Chateau d'Annecy:

The Tour de la Reine (Queen's Tower) is the castle's oldest structure, dating from the 12th century. The tower and the Logis Perrière at the bottom of the courtyard are from the 15th century. The Logis Nemours, the Logis Neuf, and the Vieux Logis are also notable components of the castle. The castle terrace offers a perspective of the ancient town, with its narrow lanes and ornamented roofs. The museum is housed in two buildings: the Logis Nemours and the Logis Vieux. The Observatory can be found in both the Logis Perrière and the Tower.

The Museum of Alpine Popular Art, Musée d'art Populaire Alpin, is notable for its collection of regional sculptures and paintings. There is a significant collection of vernacular furniture ranging from the 15th century onwards, as well as pictures, sculpted artifacts, and Alpine chalet models.
